How SchoolSense handles information from schools, staff, students, and visitors to this website. A formal legal version will replace this summary before the first pilot deployment.

No raw audio leaves the device
The central privacy rule of SchoolSense Sound: acoustic processing happens entirely on the sensor. Raw audio is never recorded, transmitted, or stored. Only derived numeric metrics — dB(A) values, timestamps, L_A90, L_AFmax, RT_60 estimates — leave the device. This is a hard rule, not a feature flag.
What the sensor collects
Numeric acoustic metrics at per-minute or per-lesson intervals, associated with a room identifier, not a student identifier. No speech content. No conversation capture. No voice identification. No image capture of any kind.
What the reporting system stores
Each sensor is paired to a school email address at setup. We store that email, the sensor’s room label, and the acoustic metrics it reports — enough to generate and send the weekly PDF, nothing more. Reports are sent only to the nominated school address.
Student data
No student identifiers are collected, stored, or transmitted. The sensor measures the room, not the people in it. No biometric data, no diagnostic data, no speech content, no voice identification.
Where data is stored
All acoustic metrics, adjustment logs, and account data are stored on Australian servers. We do not transfer data offshore.
Data retention
Acoustic metrics and generated reports are retained for the seven-year NCCD evidence cycle or until the school requests deletion — whichever is earlier.
ST4S alignment
SchoolSense Sound is being assessed against the Safer Technologies 4 Schools (ST4S) framework before any general release. The pilot operates under a data-handling agreement signed with each participating school.
