Privacy policy

How SchoolSense handles information from schools, staff, students, and visitors to this website. A formal legal version will replace this summary before the first pilot deployment.

Summary draft — the formal policy will be published before any hardware is installed in a classroom. For urgent privacy questions, email hello@schoolsense.com.au.

No raw audio leaves the device

The central privacy rule of SchoolSense Sound: acoustic processing happens entirely on the sensor. Raw audio is never recorded, transmitted, or stored. Only derived numeric metrics — dB(A) values, timestamps, L_A90, L_AFmax, RT_60 estimates — leave the device. This is a hard rule, not a feature flag.

What the sensor collects

Numeric acoustic metrics at per-minute or per-lesson intervals, associated with a room identifier, not a student identifier. No speech content. No conversation capture. No voice identification. No image capture of any kind.

What the web platform collects

School accounts store the email, name, role, and associated classrooms of authorised users. Inclusion staff may enter adjustment logs and session tags. These never leave the school without explicit export by an authorised user.

Student data

When an inclusion teacher logs an adjustment against a student, only the school’s internal student identifier is used. No biometric data, no diagnostic data, no personal information beyond what the school already manages in its existing systems.

Where data is stored

All acoustic metrics, adjustment logs, and account data are stored on Australian servers. We do not transfer data offshore.

Data retention

Acoustic metrics are retained for the seven-year NCCD evidence cycle or until the school requests deletion — whichever is earlier.

ST4S alignment

SchoolSense Sound is being assessed against the Safer Technologies 4 Schools (ST4S) framework before any general release. The pilot operates under a data-handling agreement signed with each participating school.
